My life is a struggle between my need for acceptance, my fear of rejection, and a desire to not care at all.

After threats against her life, Anita Sarkeesian canceled an upcoming talk at Utah State University. Gamergate trolls are celebrating on Twitter while simultaneously dismissing the threats as nothing. Does this read like nothing to you?

“I will write my manifesto in her spilled blood, and you will all bear witness to what feminist lies and poison have done to the men of America.”

The email’s author threatened to murder feminist women indiscriminately in a mass shooting. And because carrying guns on campus outweigh the right of students and guests to be safe, Anita Sarkeesian canceled her talk.

The bullies won this time. And if you think this shit isn’t dangerous, I’m fresh out of fucks to give and I’m not restocking any time soon. It’s goddamn wrong to to dismiss this by claiming the author isn’t serious. Elliot Rodger’s rantings were dismissed until it was too late.

This. Is. Not. OK.

guns… literally more important than the lives of women in the state of loveable mormons

Authorities after a mass shooting: “If we’d had some warning we could have done something to prevent it.”

Authorities after warning of a mass shooting: “We can’t do anything.”

This is disgusting and terrifying. The screen-capped tweets are incredibly on point.

I hate that the guy who made the threat essentially got what he wanted, but I have zero expectation for Anita or her audience to risk their lives to speak out. They don’t owe anyone that.

I hope the police to fully investigate this, find this misogynistic, terrorist sack of dung, and prosecute him until he’s completely ruined.

As far as the unable to stop guns from being brought to the event, this is one of those cases where the authorities hands are quite genuinely tied. While I am a proponent of the right to bear arms, I also believe in the need for better performed background investigations, mandatory handling safety tests, and requirements for regular renewal of firearm licenses. Open carry laws are tricky, and this is a case where an open carry law is causing a problem. Many people, like single women, get open carry permits so that they can keep a firearm on them for personal protection from bigger, stronger attackers or as a coping mechanism because of past attacks. By open carry law, if you have an this permit you cannot legally be prevented from carrying your licensed firearm(s) in public places. Private property, courthouses, churches, correctional facilities, and mental institutions that give sufficient public notice can ban guns on their property even within an open carry law state. Utah’s (and many other) open carry laws very specifically say that public schools (of any grade level) cannot restrict open carry laws to ban guns from their campuses or buildings as they are public property. USU is a public university. Legally, they and the police cannot ban guns from campus nor from an event like Anita’s speech, regardless of the threats made. People likely to do harm know this, and know they cannot legally be prevented from bringing a gun to that talk. I’d say the law about open carry and schools needs to change, how it needs to change is up to the individual states. I can imagine being a young woman, living on campus (many universities even require that freshman live on campus), and wanting to have your gun for personal protection. However, when things like this come up, the school needs to have recourse to be able to ban guns from events and buildings.

I actually don’t think he’s fanboying, he’s just so proud that they came to his premiere.

Yes yes I think you’re right. He was so excited to see them(including JJ) there to see and support his film. :D

this is from a real diary by a 13-year-old girl in 1870. teenage girls are awesome and they’ve always been that way.

I was literally just thinking of this post this morning.
